1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. light molasses
1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. vinegar
2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Raisins, assorted candies, coconut
Wooden skewers

Cream together shortening, brown sugar, and molasses. Stir in milk and vinegar. Sift together molasses mixture. Drop by teaspoon about 2 1/2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Insert wooden skewer halfway into each mound of cookie dough.

Stagger rows of cookies to leave room for the skewers. Use small spatula to spread dough around skewer if dough separates. Decorate face with raisins, candy and coconut. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Let sit for a few minutes to cool. Makes about 2 dozen.
