ICE PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers
1/3 c. pickling & canning salt
Crushed ice
3 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar
Pinch of alum
2 tbsp. pickling spices

First 3 ingredients, let stand for 3 hours. Take remaining mixture and bring to a boil. Pour syrup over pickles in jars and seal.
