SNICKERDOODLES 
1 c. shortening or butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix together shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Combine 2 mixtures. Chill dough. Roll into balls. Roll into mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, bake until lightly brown but still soft. These cookies puff up at first and then flatten out with crinkled tops. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees.
