SAN FRANCISCO STEW | |
1/2 to 1 lb. lean hamburger (or 1 lb. ground turkey) 1/4 c. onions, finely chopped 1/4 c. green pepper, finely chopped 1 can (15 oz. size) stewed tomatoes (or 2 c. canned tomatoes 2 med. size cans brown beans 1/4 c. white rice if desired Optional - 1 to 2 tbsp. taco sauce 2 to 5 strips bacon Sm. amount brown sugar (1 to 3 tbsp.) Brown the meat with onions and green pepper in small amount of butter. Pour off some of the juice of the tomatoes and beans (if not desired) or add small amount of rice to take up the juice and complete the bean protein (1/4 cup rice). Add the tomatoes and beans (and rice) to the meat mixture and heat thoroughly. Pour into shallow casserole, or pan, and place strips of bacon on top and sprinkle brown sugar on top (which helps to give the final flavoring). Heat in oven at 400 degrees until the bacon gets done. |
