1 c. sugar
4 heaping tbsp. flour
4 c. milk (1 c. + 3 c.)
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs (separate if you make meringue)
1 tbsp. butter (opt.)

Mix sugar and flour together in top of double boiler. Add 1 cup milk; mix well. Add 3 more cups milk. Cook until it begins to thicken. Separate and beat egg yolks. Mix a little pudding with with egg yolks. Add mixture back to pudding. Cook 5 more minutes. Take off. Add vanilla (butter if desired). Layer vanilla wafers, pudding and coconut, etc. Crushed pineapple could be used.
