SLICED SWEET PICKLES 
15 med. size pickles
1 qt. vinegar
8 c. sugar (white)
2 tbsp. whole pickling spice (Durkees)
2 tbsp. pickling salt

Use granite, pan with lid. Wash cucumbers and cover with boiling water. Repeat 3 days in a row (add fresh hot boiling water each day).

FIFTH DAY: Drain water. Cut pickles crosswise, then in small chunks. Combine other ingredients and heat to boiling, stirring liquid mixture.

Pour over sliced pickles. Let stand 24 hours. Repeat for 3 days. Heat syrup to boiling each day. On last day, bring syrup to a boil and add 1 cup sugar. Pour over pickles. Pack in 1/2 and 1 pint jars and wipe edge of jar. Then seal and tighten caps. Cool.
