HERMIT COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. raisins

Cream shortening and sifted sugar together. Add milk to beaten egg. Sift all dry ingredients together and add shortening mixture, alternating with liquid ingredients. Add nuts and raisins. Mix well and drop by teaspoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
