PINWHEEL COOKIES 
Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.

Sift together: 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. cloves

Cream: 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar

Add 1 unbeaten egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat well. Blend in the dry ingredients. Roll out half of dough on floured surface to a 10 x 8 inch rectangle. Spread with half of Filling. Roll-up, starting with 10 inch side. Wrap in waxed paper. Repeat with remaining dough. Chill 2 hours. Cut into 1/2 inch slices; place on lightly greased cookie sheets.

Date Filling: Combine 1 1/4 cups (8 ounce package) cut dates, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup water in saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Cool. Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts.

Chocolate Filling: Melt 1 cup (6 ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate morsels over boiling water. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 cup chopped coconut.
