AUNT BEA'S BUTTER COOKIES | |
1/2 c. butter, softened 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla 3 c. flour, sifted and divided In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy with an electric mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Beat thoroughly. It will be very stiff. Cover and chill for 3 hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sprinkle work surface with 1/2 cup flour and roll dough out to 1/8 inch thick. Cut cookies with floured cutters, place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake seven minutes, cool on rack and frost or decorate. Makes 5 dozen, 2 inch cookies. |
