SHARON'S WHEAT BREAD | |
1 pkg. yeast (dry) 1/4 c. lukewarm water 2 1/2 c. hot water 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. shortening 3 tsp. salt 3 c. wheat flour 1 c. white flour 4 c. white flour added later Combine yeast and lukewarm water and a sprinkle of sugar. Mix next 4 ingredients, cool to lukewarm. Add yeast mixture, mix well. Stir in wheat and white flour. Add enough white flour, about 4 cups. Knead until smooth (10 to 12 minutes). Shape into ball and put in greased bowl, cover and let rise till doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Pull apart, shape 2 balls, place into greased pans, let rise until doubled. Bake in 375 degree oven for 45 minutes. Cover with foil for last 20 minutes of baking. |
