For single batch (double everything for double batch). 2 c. granulated sugar 1 c. hot water 2/3 c. white Karo syrup 1 tbsp. oil flavor 1 tbsp. food coloring Powdered sugar to cover cookie sheet completely Note: Oil flavors are obtained at cake decorating stores (big size, 2 tablespoons). (Small size 1 dram, 1 tablespoon.) Candy thermometer can be obtained at grocery store. Boil granulated sugar, hot water and Karo syrup on high until starts to boil, then cut to medium high. When mixture hits hard crack or 310 degrees (while cooking stir continuously), then take off stove and stir and add 1 tablespoon of oil flavoring and 1 tablespoon of food coloring. Take powdered sugar and cover cookie sheet completely. Pour candy in pan and let it cool a little. Do not let it get hard. Then cut with scissors in small pieces while still warm. The candy is very very hot! Please be careful and don't get burned. Keep your children out of the kitchen while making the candy. |
