APPLESAUCE COOKIES 
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. grated orange rind
1 c. canned applesauce
2 c. uncooked oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Mixed diced candied fruits and peels

Mix and sift flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugars. Stir in eggs, add orange rind, applesauce, oats and nuts; mix well. Add dry ingredients, stirring until mixed. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Decorate each with piece of candied fruit. Bake in a moderate oven at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Approximately 5 1/2 dozen cookies.
