BASIC YEAST ROLLS 
1 c. milk
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. water (warm)
4 1/2 - 5 c. flour

Scald first four ingredients. Allow to cool until lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in water. Mix yeast and egg with cooled milk mixture. Mix in flour until dough is stiff, turn out on floured board and knead for a full 5 minutes. Place dough in greased bowl and allow to rise in a warm place until double, about 1 hour. Punch down and pinch off rolls. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. This recipe produces dough suitable for cinnamon rolls, sweet rolls, doughnuts and loaf bread. (Bake loaf for 45 minutes.)
