SOFT PRETZELS | |
1 c. warm water 1 pkg. dry yeast 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. softened butter 3 1/4 - 3 3/4 c. flour 1 tbsp. water 1 egg yolk, beaten Coarse salt or sesame seeds Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, salt, butter and 2 cups flour. Beat until blended. Continue to stir in and then knead in flour until stiff and elastic (5 minutes). Place in bowl and brush top of dough with oil. Let rise until doubled (40 minutes). Punch down and divide into 12 pieces. Roll into ropes and balls and make pretzels or animal shapes (turtle, snail, bear...). Combine egg yolk and water. Brush on dough and sprinkle with salt or sesame seeds. Bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees or until done. |
