ROMAN APPLE CAKE | |
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 c. shortening 2 eggs, well beaten 1 c. sour milk 2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. vanilla 2 c. diced apples Mix first 4 ingredients. Sift dry ingredients and mix alternately with sour milk. Add vanilla and apples. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 inch cake pan. Mix together 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup nuts. Sprinkle batter with nut mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Serves 8. Very good served either with whipped cream dollop or warm. Very good as a coffee cake! No frosting required. |
