DEVIL DOGS 
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg

Sift together first six ingredients into mixing bowl. Add next four ingredients and blend. Drop by teaspoonful (2 inches apart) onto greased and floured cookie sheet. Bake at 420 degrees for 5-7 minutes.

FILLING:

1/3 c. evaporated milk
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix together and beat for 5 minutes in mixer. Place filling between two devil dog cakes and refrigerate.
