SENATE BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. Great Northern Beans
Water
1 meaty ham bone or 2 ham hocks
1 lg. chopped onion
1 c. diced celery
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt & pepper to taste
3 med. potatoes diced (peeled)

Soak beans overnight in 2 quarts water. Next day add ham bone to soaking beans; add 2 more quarts of water. boil and skin. Cover and simmer 2 hours until beans are soft. Add rest of ingredients and simmer 1 more hour. Remove bone and cut up meat.
