STEAMED BROWN BREAD | |
1 c. white flour 1 c. whole wheat flour 1 c. cornmeal 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. molasses 1 1/2 c. sour milk 2 tbsp. melted shortening 1 c. raisins Mix white flour, whole wheat flour, cornmeal, salt, soda and sugar together. Add sour milk and molasses to dry ingredients. Add shortening and mix well. Add raisins. Fill a greased 2 pound metal coffee can with a tight cover and steam for 3 hours. Cover with aluminum foil and tie with string. To steam - use a spaghetti maker. If not, take an old pie tin and punch holes in it. Put it in a 4 or 6 quart pot. Add about 3 inches of water. Do not let water dry up. |
