GOLD STAR BEAN SOUP 
1 pkg. mixed beans
Ham hock or ham chunks
1 lg. onion
1 lg. can tomatoes
1 lg. red pepper or 1 tsp. chili powder
1 clove garlic, chopped
Juice of 1 lemon

Wash beans well, cover with water in large kettle. Soak for 10-12 hours. Three to four hours before cooking, drain them, then add 2 quarts water, ham hock or ham and simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add rest of ingredients; simmer 30 to 40 minutes more.
