APPLE DUMPLINGS 
3 c. water
3 c. sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. lemon juice
8-10 lg. apples
3 c. plain flour
1 c. Crisco

Combine water and sugar, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon and lemon juice in large pot. Simmer until thickened. Peel and slice apples and add to syrup and turn off heat. Let sit while making dough. Mix flour and Crisco and enough water to make dough. Roll out dough on floured counter top to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut dough into about 5 inch squares.

Place square in baking pan and put a large spoonful of apples on each piece. Fold corner of square to meet. Close and pinch. Pour syrup over top and bake 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with ice cream or Cool Whip.

Makes about 9 dumplings.
