ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 c. butter
4 eggs
4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 lbs. orange slice candy
1 lb. angel flake coconut
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. orange juice
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in buttermilk
1 lb. chopped dates
1 (10 oz.) bottle cherries, drained
2 c. pecans or walnuts
2 tsp. grated orange peel

Cream butter, sugar and eggs well. Stir all ingredients together, adding chopped cherries, orange candy and nuts last. Pour into tube pan and small loaf pan, both well greased. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Mix and stir often 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup orange juice. Pour over cool cake as a glaze.
