DATE LOAF CANDY 
2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1/4 c. butter
1 c. pitted dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, milk and butter in saucepan. Bring to boil and boil until a drop forms a hard ball when dropped into cold water. Remove and add dates, nuts and vanilla. Mash up the dates and if you have to return to fire for a few minutes to mash them up better. Do not have to be completely dissolved. Beat some and pour onto a wet cloth on the counter into a roll shape. Roll the cloth up and allow to sit until cloth is dry and candy is hard. Unroll and slice and place in airtight container.
