NESTLE'S CONGO COOKIES (FROM 1942) | |
"Made with Nestle's Semi-Sweet Chocolate - Use 7 ounce Bar or Bag of Morsels." 2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 cup shortening 2 1/2 cups brown sugar (1 lb. pkg.) 3 eggs 1 cup nut meats, broken 1 (7 oz.) pkg. Nestle's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, in pieces 1 tsp. vanilla Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt. Melt shortening and add brown sugar. Stir until well mixed. Allow to cool slightly. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients, then nut meats, chocolate and vanilla. Pour into greased pan about 10-1/2 x 15-1/2 x 1/4-inch. Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes. When almost cool, cut into finger length bars. Yield: 3 dozen. Source: Milwaukee Sentinel newspaper, Feb 22, 1942.
