ETHEL'S FAMOUS DATE FILLED DROP

Cookie:

2 c brown sugar packed hard
1 c crisco
2 eggs
1/2 c warm water
1 tsp vanilla
4 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Filling:

1 c cut up dates
1/2 c sugar (scant)
1 c warm water
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c nuts (optional)

Blend together brown sugar, crisco, eggs, water, and vanilla. Add flour, salt, and soda and mix well.

Filling: Cook slow until dates are soft and everything well blended.

Drop by spoonfuls and make a dent on top. Put sm amount of filling in and then add a dab of dough on top of filling.

Bake at 350°F until golden brown.
