DATE PINWHEEL 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening (oleo)
3 eggs
4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

1 lb. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water, sometimes a little more

Combine and cook filling 5 minutes and let stand to cool a little. Add 1/2 cup nuts, chopped.

Cream sugars and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time and mix well. Sift dry ingredients and add to sugar mixture with vanilla. Roll dough out on floured board until about 1/2" thick. Spread with date filling and roll up like jelly roll only thinner. Let stand overnight in refrigerator. Slice and bake in moderate oven about 375 degrees for about 12 minutes.
