POPCORN NUT BRITTLE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
8 c. popped corn
1 c. toasted, slivered almonds or peanuts
1/2 c. chopped candied cherries
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt in heavy saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Cook over medium heat to hard cracked stage (300 degrees). Meanwhile, spread the popcorn, nuts, and cherries in a buttered 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch pan and heat in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Remove syrup from heat; quickly stir in butter and vanilla until butter melts. Pour over popcorn mixture; stir to coat all pieces. Spread thin on flat surface. Cool. Break into pieces. Makes 1 1/4 pounds.
