BROWN SUGAR POUND CAKE WITH
CREAM CHEESE TOPPING
 
1/2 lb. butter
1/2 c. solid shortening
1 box plus 1 c. brown sugar
5 eggs
1 c. milk
3 1/2 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING:

8 oz. cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Add sugar, a cup at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Sift flour, measure. Sift baking powder and flour together. Add these dry ingredients and milk alternately, in small amounts to creamed mixture, blending well.

When thoroughly mixed, add vanilla. Pour into well-greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees about 1 1/2 hours.

Blend cream cheese with butter, add powdered sugar gradually, mixing well between additions. Add vanilla. Cover top and sides of well-cooled cake.
