JEANNE'S WET-BOTTOM SHOOFLY PIE 
1 c. flour
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 tbsp. shortening

Mix together until crumbly. Remove 1/2 cup crumbs and set aside for top. Make a well in remaining crumbs and add in order, mixing after each addition:

1 egg
1 c. syrup
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 3/4 c. hot water

Pour into unbaked 9 inch pie shell. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
