WHITE BREAD | |
2 pkgs. yeast 1 c. warm water 1 tsp. sugar Dissolve and let stand about 10 minutes. 5 c. milk 5 tbsp. sugar 2 tbsp. salt 5 tbsp. shortening Lard or butter Pour milk into large bowl, add yeast and 6 cups flour. Stir until blended. Continue adding until dough cleans the side of the bowl. Turn out on floured board and knead, adding flour until dough is firm and not sticky. Grease bowl lightly. Place dough in bowl and let rise until double in bulk, approximately 2 hours. Punch down and let rise until double in size. Turn out on floured board. Cut into 5 even pieces. Let stand 10 minutes. Make into loaves. Place in greased bread tins and let rise until slightly above the tins. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. Cool on rack. |
