AUNT ALTA'S OLD FASHIONED BREAD
PUDDING
 
3 c. soft bread crumbs
2 c. scalded milk
1/4 c. butter
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. raisins

In 1 1/2 quart baking dish, layer bread crumbs. Stir in scalded milk and butter. Add eggs, one at a time. Stir in sugar, salt, nutmeg and raisins; mix well. Place baking dish in pan with 1 inch of hot water. Bake at 350 degrees until silver knife inserted 1 inch from edge comes out clean, about 40-45 minutes. Serve warm with hard sauce or cream.
