PLAIN BUTTER CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar together, add beaten egg yolks. Sift baking powder with flour, add milk to creamed mix, add flavoring; mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry, add 2 remaining cups sugar; mix well. Fold egg whites into cake batter. Bake in loaf pan 1 hour at 350 degrees or 3 layer pans for 25 minutes.

SEVEN MINUTE FROSTING:

2 egg whites
3/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. light corn syrup
2 tbsp. water
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients except vanilla. Place over boiling water, beat 2 minutes or until frosting holds peak, then add vanilla. Spread on cake.
