HILLBILLY SOUP 
1 lb. hamburger
Salt and pepper
2 onions, cut up
2 sticks celery, cut up
1 carrot, grated
1 qt. tomatoes
3/4 c. barley

In a 8-quart kettle, put hamburger, salt and pepper. Add onions, celery, and carrot. Cook until done. Add tomatoes. Bring to a boil and add barley. Bring to a boil and simmer 1/2 hour.
