Oil (for frying)
1 slice bread
1/2 lemon
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. boiling water
1 egg
Confectioners' sugar

Sift together flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Make a well in center of flour and add boiling water. Beat until batter is smooth and shiny. Spoon batter into a pastry tube and press small amount (about 3 inches in length) into oil heated to 375 degrees and cook until golden brown all over. Remove to paper towels to drain. While still hot, roll in confectioners' sugar. Makes about 1 dozen.
