GIANT SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 egg yolks or 1 whole egg
3 tbsp. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks, milk and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture. Chill dough 1 hour.

On well floured board, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with desired cookie cutter. Sprinkle with sugar and bake at 350 degrees for 6-8 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet.

I frost these cookies with powdered sugar icing, made with powdered sugar, a stick of butter, and enough milk to make the icing of spreading consistency. You can also just sprinkle with granulated sugar instead of frosting them.

I usually triple this recipe because the original recipe only makes about two dozen cookies.
