FRESH APPLE POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 lg. or 5 med. eggs
3 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. fresh chopped apples
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well. Sift flour, spices, salt and baking soda together and add to first mixture. Fold in apples and nuts and vanilla. Blend well.

Pour into a well greased and floured.

Bake at 325°F for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

ICING FOR POUND CAKE:

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
1/4 c. fresh apples, grated
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil in saucepan; use low heat to cook slowly. Stir constantly, hot boil 1 minute. Apply to cake while hot.
