Sliced apples Brown sugar Cloves (ground) Cinnamon (ground) butter Whether 1 casserole dish or 10, fill dish 1/2 full with apples and juice. Lightly sprinkle cloves (not too much). Sprinkle cinnamon - cover pretty good. Cover with at least 1/2 inch of brown sugar. Dot with butter. If your stove is like ours the heat will be 300 to 350 degrees. I like to cook 1 hour in the evening, stirring occasionally. Turn oven off and leave in oven overnight. Now you can tell if you need to add more sugar and butter and cook until really brown. Do a little experimenting with this one. Add different things such as apple pie spice, allspice, nutmeg, ground orange peel. |
