IRISH SODA BREAD | |
3 c. flour 3 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. caraway seeds 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. raisins 1 pt. sour cream or plain yogurt Mix 2 1/2 cups flour with next 6 ingredients, then add pint of sour cream/yogurt. Keep mixing and folding cream into dry ingredients, then add remaining 1/2 cup flour and mix thoroughly. Form into a ball and put on a baking pan or 9-inch pie plate. Flatten down slightly. With a knife, form a cross halfway through top of bread. Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes (check after 1 hour - may be done in fast oven). Take from oven and pour some melted butter into cross and over top. Cool before cutting. |
