DAN'S FAVORITE HOLIDAY COOKIES | |
1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. butter 2 c. white sugar 2 eggs 1 c. sour milk 1 tsp. vanilla 5 c. flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt Dash of nutmeg (Sour the milk by putting 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar into a measuring cup. Add milk to make 1 cup. Let stand until needed). Cream shortening and butter with sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add milk alternately with the dry ingredients. Put dough in refrigerator until cool. When cool, take just a portion out and roll on a well floured board. (Dough is sticky, so you'll use lots of flour.) Roll out about 1/8 inch thick (thicker if you like softer cookies) and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until very light brown. Frost or decorate as desired. |
