PAPER BAG APPLE PIE | |
1 unbaked pie shell 3-4 lg. apples (5-6 for deep dish) 1/2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. lemon juice TOPPING: 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. butter Pare, core and quarter apples. Cut each quarter crosswise to make chunks. Combine sugar and flour with nutmeg. Sprinkle over apples to coat each piece. Spoon into shell. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Topping: Combine sugar and flour. Cut in shortening (butter) until well mixed. Spread over apples to cover top of pie. Place pie in a large brown paper bag. Fold ends over and fasten with paper clips. Bake at 425 degrees for 1 hour. (Yes, the bag scorches but doesn't burn!) |
