RAISIN BREAD BRAIDS | |
2 c. milk 1 c. water 2 tsp. salt 1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. yeast 12 to 14 c. flour 1 tsp. grated lemon peel 2 tbsp. butter, melted 3 tbsp. butter, melted 2 eggs 1 c. raisins 1 egg, beaten Scald milk and water. Add salt and sugar and all yeast to liquid when it is slightly cooled. Add about 1 pound flour along with lemon peel, melted butter and butter, 2 eggs and raisins. Work in rest of flour, until no longer sticky. Place in oiled bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled. Shape in 6 small or 2 large braids. Let rise again until doubled. Brush with beaten egg and bake 20 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees. |
