1 c. molasses (substitute 1/2 c. honey or syrup) 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. salt 2 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. ginger 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder Heat molasses to boiling. Add shortening and soda, remove from stove and add rest of ingredients. Chill overnight in refrigerator. Roll - leave very thick, cut and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 about 10 minutes. Will burn easily. (When you add the soda it will foam a lot.) |
