BEST APPLE PIE | |
2 1/2 lbs. cooking apples 1/3 c. firmly packed light brown sugar 1/3 c. sugar 1 tbsp. cornstarch or 2 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter Water or milk Sugar for sprinkling Peel, core and thinly slice apples (8 cups). Place apples in a bowl, mix sugar, spices, cornstarch or flour, salt in a small bowl. Sprinkle over apples, toss gently to mix. Let stand until a little juice forms, about 10 minutes. Prepare and roll out pie crust. Place in a 9 inch pie plate. Add apple mixture, and the butter. Seal crust with water and sprinkle with sugar. Bake pie in 425 degree oven for 40 minutes. |
