HUNGARIAN PLUM CAKE (Szilva
Torta)
 
1 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. oil or shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. milk
1/4 c. water
9 or more plums (halved & pitted)
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Sift flour, baking powder and sugar into bowl. Add oil, egg, milk and water. Beat until smooth. Spread into 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 inch pan. Place plums on top, cut side up. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together. Sprinkle over plums. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35-45 minutes until done. Serve with following topping: Fold 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon into 1 cup whipped cream.
