2 tbsp. shortening 1/2 lb. Vermicelli, broken in 1 inch pieces 1 1/2 lb. ground beef 2 cloves garlic 2 c. onion, chopped 2 c. chopped celery 1 1/2 c. chopped green pepper 1 can whole kernel corn with liquid 3 tsp. salt 1 tsp. black pepper 2/3 tsp. chili powder 1 lg. can tomatoes 1 c. water Grated cheese for topping Saute Vermicelli (watch carefully-burns easily) in shortening until browned well; stirring occasionally. Add ground beef and brown. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover and cook gently for 25 minutes. May need to add water if too dry. Uncover and cook 5 minutes. |
