BEEF AND BEANS 
3 c. dried pinto beans
water
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. bacon grease
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 or 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
15 oz. can tomatoes, not drained
8 oz. can tomato sauce

Soak beans in water overnight. Then simmer in a very large saucepan until done. Add salt, pepper, bacon grease and sugar while cooking. Brown ground beef, drain and add to beans. In the same skillet, brown the onion and bell pepper and add to the beans. Stir into beans the jalapenos, tomatoes and tomato sauce and simmer until thick. Let stand in pot for 30 minutes before serving. The longer it stands the better it tastes. Serves 12 to 15.
