BALLYMALOE BROWN BREAD | |
1 lb. stoneground whole wheat flour 2 level tsp. salt 2 (1/4 oz. pkg.) of granular yeast 1 tbsp. black molasses About 1 1/4 cups warm water THIS BREAD REQUIRES NO KNEADING AND ONLY ONE RISING. Mix flour and salt and warm n a 250 degree oven. Stir in yeast. Dissolve molasses in 1/4 cup of the warm water and stir into flour. Add enough of the remaining water to make a dough just moist enough to knead. Place dough in a loaf pan; cover with warm tea towel and put in a warm place until dough rises by about a third. (About 45 minutes.) Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Bake for 40 minutes, then brush top with water and bake 5 more minutes. Turn out to cool. Makes 1 loaf. |
