MY MOTHER'S OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
3/4 to 1 c. shortening

Add:

2 c. dry quick oatmeal and 1/2 c. sour cream

Sift together and add:

1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 scant tsp. cloves

Mix well and add about 1 1/4 cups more flour to make a cookie like dough. Add 1 cup raisins. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven 350 to 370 degrees about 10-15 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

We used to send these cookies to a friend at camp and on the battlefield in France during World War I.
