OLD FASHIONED BREAD | |
1 c. milk, scalded 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. sugar 1 tbsp. salt 1 c. cold water 1 yeast cake 1/3 c. lukewarm water 1 tbsp. sugar 7 c. flour, about (2 c. whole wheat & 5 c. white flour) Have milk scalded. Add shortening, sugar and salt. Add the cold water. Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water and add sugar. Mix all ingredients together. Add enough flour to make the dough spongy. Put the dough in greased bowl; put in warm place and let rise until double the size. Make in loaves and let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 350 degrees about 40-45 minutes. Makes 2 loaves. |
