APPLE STREUSEL LADDER LOAF | |
16 oz. loaf frozen sweet bread dough or bread dough, thawed 2 tbsp. butter, softened 1/4 c. packed brown sugar 1 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 c. finely chopped peeled apples (use a tart apple) Milk 2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. butter 1/4 c. slivered almonds (optional) Divide thawed dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll each half into an 8 inch square. Spread each square with 1 tablespoon butter. In a bowl combine brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon; add apples and mix to coat. Spread half of the filling down the center of each square. Cutting from the right edge toward the filling, make 2 1/2 inch long cuts in dough at 1 inch intervals. Repeat form the left edge. Fold strips alternately over filling, folding under edges. Place braided loaves on greased jelly roll pan. Brush with milk. Combine the 2 tablespoons flour and sugar. Cut in 1 tablespoon butter. Sprinkle this mixture over loaves and top with nuts. Bake in 350 degree oven until brown and apples pierce easily. |
