AUNT BETTY'S APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. nuts
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. boiling water

Cream shortening and add sugar gradually. Add beaten egg and applesauce. Use a little flour (1/2 to 3/4 cup) to sift over fruits and nuts. Dissolve soda in boiling water. Then add flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice mixture alternately with water to the creamed mixture. Add floured raisins and nuts. Pour into greased and floured angel cake pan (10x4 or 9x3 1/2) tube pan. Bake 1 hour in 350 degree oven. (1 hour 15 minutes for 9x3 1/2).
